The Government of Sindh has approved major changes to the appointment criteria for vice chancellors of universities across the province.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Murad Ali Shah as part of efforts to modernize the university leadership selection process.
Major Changes in VC Eligibility Criteria
Under the revised rules:
- 📘 Maximum age limit increased from 62 to 65 years
- 📘 Required experience raised from 15 to 20 years
- 📘 Candidates must have at least 10 HEC-recognized research publications
Officials said the updated criteria aim to widen the pool of experienced and qualified candidates.
Bureaucrats Also Eligible for VC Positions
The changes follow earlier amendments passed by the Sindh Assembly allowing:
- Serving bureaucrats
- Retired bureaucrats
to become eligible for vice chancellor appointments at general universities.
New Recruitment Rules for Education Boards
During the same meeting, the cabinet also approved:
- Recruitment Rules 2026
- Service Regulations 2026
for all seven Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Sindh.
Standardized Appointment Process
According to officials:
- Appointments for chairman, secretary, controller of examinations, and audit officer will now be made through a standardized selection process
- A search and selection committee will oversee appointments
Chairman Eligibility Criteria
For the post of chairman:
- Age limit: 40 to 55 years
- Qualification: First division Master’s degree
- Experience: 15 years of senior management experience
